HOME SUPPORT PROGRAM

Having recognized that the needs of senior citizens lie beyond simply social ones, The Teapot offers several services aimed to meet these needs.

The Home Support Program, which is funded by the Regional Council of Health and Social Services for the Metropolitan Montreal, offers a vital service for less mobile individuals who are unable to come to the center and take part in its programs. As the title of the program suggests, the main objectives of Home Support is to reach out and provide specific services to the seniors of Lachine who are homebound, lonely, or need assistance with certain tasks.

In recent years, the number of services provided under the Home Support banner has grown to 26. Some of these include transportation to medical appointments, shopping, Collective Kitchens, Friendly Visiting, telephone calls, information, referral and other necessary services which help our seniors to remain independent and in their homes as long as possible.

Transportation is the key to most of these services. Home Support clients are also offered the opportunity of transportation to the Foot Care Clinic, as well as to many of the special events held at the Teapot. This allows us to integrate as many seniors as possible into the center's programs, particularly those who are less mobile.

The Friendly Visiting service sees to the pairing up of homebound seniors and volunteer friendly visitors. Usually, the volunteer will drop by on a weekly basis for a friendly chat and a cup of tea.

All of the Home Support services are offered by trained volunteers.
