Community Support Services

Our Community Support Services are committed to enhancing the quality of life of older adults. Our team is ready to provide you with the support you and your family need while faced with the realities of aging and the challenges that come with it. We offer essential services to allow the 50+ community to maintain their independence and quality of life. See below for a detailed description of each of our services.

Minibus "Shop with":

  • A Door to door grocery shopping to a local IGA or Maxi store. Staff and volunteers are available to support with carrying bags and guiding members around the grocery store. The Community Support Workers calls registered participants to give the time of pickup. For reservations theses calls are
    made by 12:00 noon.   

 

Minibus "Shop with" shopping service:   

  • Door to door grocery shopping to a local IGA or Maxi. Bag & delivery by our staff and volunteers, so you can enjoy the experience. We have shopping guides available for those needing individual support 

 

Foot Clinic Program: 

  • By appointment only | $40 per appointment | In-home clinic offered.

Transportation:

  • Transportation is available for quick errands within Lachine/Dorval as well as transportation to medical appointments throughout the city. 

"Shop For":  

  • Volunteer contacts members who have registered for the “shop for” telephone grocery orders.  Orders are taken by telephone and completed at IGA the following day.​​​

Senior on the Move: 

  • Volunteer drivers accompany members to and from medical appointments. Taxi voucher coupons are available for medical appointments  * 48-hour notice is necessary ​

Special Errands:  

  • A volunteer is available upon request to take members to the pharmacy, bank, hair appointments and/or clothing shopping

Intake: 

  • The Community Support Coordinator will visit to offer and explain in detail the information regarding The Teapot’s services and activities.  Intakes are an initial visit to assess the needs of the potential members.  

Look on Bright Side:       

  • An introductory integration group. Every second Friday at 1:30 pm this animated group meets for various discussions and activities. With music, games and a lot of laughs looking on the bright side of life couldn't be more fun!

Assessments:

  • If required, an assessment is offered following an Intake.  To support the individual's integration into the centre if there are concerns related to participating.  The Community Support Work will visit the potential member to help with the integration process.  

Friendly Calls and Visits:    

  • Students and/or volunteers will visit members in-home while accompanying the individual to activities at the Teapot.
